Esperanza Rising by by Pam Muñoz Ryan
I love sharing this story with my students because the theme is perseverance. Â We can tackle the unthinkable when we make the choice not to give up. Â If you are looking for a novel study to help you implement this diverse book, grab my Esperanza Rising Novel Unit.Â
Â
Crash by Jerry Spinelli
This is a good one to start the school year with since the characters are beginning their 7th grade school year as well. I love this book as a read-aloud because the chapters are short and each chapter ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, begging for readers to continue on. Check out my Crash Novel Study Bundle for my full array of companion resources.Â

Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick
